Q1-1.If the application can be made at any time, when does GPIF start the screening?

A.As the purpose of the manager entry system is to gather information broadly and continuously and to flexibly replace and hire investment managers, applications may be submitted at any time. Although, there is no predetermined schedule for application screening. GPIF may make an announcement on our website if there is a specific high priority category.

Q2-1.Are the managed asset classes and/or benchmark available for registration pre-determined?

A.The major benchmarks adopted by GPIF for each asset are listed in the application procedures. Applicants may also submit applications for other products and/or benchmarks. In addition, please refer to the Annual Report disclosed on the GPIF's website for benchmarks under management as of the end of each fiscal year.

Q2-2.Can we register our product which contains both non-Japanese and Japanese assets, such as global equity or global bond funds?

A.Yes. Please register them in non-Japanese equities or non-Japanese bonds category. If you could manage your fund excluding Japanese assets, you may register the performance with Japanese assets carved out, in addition to registering global equity or global bond fund.

Q2-3.Can we register for alternative assets?

A.GPIF has a separate manager registration system for alternative investments as below.

Q2-4.Can we register our strategy even if we have no track record?

A.Yes. However, we may request alternative quantitative data to evaluate your investment capability during our selection process.

Q2-5.Can we register our strategy even if it uses derivatives?

A.Yes. However, there may be restrictions on the types of derivatives and the amount of its positions that can be taken depending on each asset.

Q3-1.How do we submit information for registration when applying?

A.Please download the "Manager Entry Application Form (Meeting Qualifications).xlsx" posted on the GPIF's website, fill in the required information, and send to the e-mail address for Entry separately listed for each asset.

You can apply even if you are not registered with eVestment, however we request that you submit the necessary information.

Q3-2.We are registered but do not currently meet the application requirements; can we automatically switch our status to "Entry" upon meeting them?

A.Even if the application requirements are met after registration due to a change in our Qualification of Asset Managers for Application or to become a registered investment manager, the status will not be switched over automatically. As GPIF must confirm whether qualifications are met and required information is registered, we request applicants to download the "Manager Entry Application Form (meet the qualification).xlsx" and go through the registration procedure. There is no deadline to apply after meeting our qualifications, but please register as soon as possible, as our screening will only be proceeded for registered products.
